DIMAPUR — MGM College, Dimapur, in collaboration with Pranab College, Dimapur, has decided to organise an ICSSR-sponsored national seminar on the theme ‘Understanding India’s northeast: ethnicity, identity and issues of conflict,’ on February 7 and 8, 2025. According to an update, the seminar, to be conducted in a hybrid mode, aims to foster dialogue and research on critical issues shaping the socio-political and cultural dynamics of Northeast India. The sub themes include citizenship laws (CAA and NRC) and the issue of identity, autonomy movements and autonomous councils, regional political parties, party politics, and pressure groups, legal and constitutional protections (ILP, Article 371, VI Schedule) of North East India, separatist movements in North-East India, language and cultural identity, migration, diaspora and refugee issues. The seminar would also encompass boundary issues and conflicts, interface of traditional self-governing institutions and modern political institutions, ethnology of tribes, identity politics, gender and identity-race, caste and demography, identity and demography. The seminar would feature renowned academicians, researchers and policymakers as speakers and participants, providing a platform for in-depth discussions and new perspectives on the region’s challenges and opportunities.
