MOKOKCHUNG — The indefinite shutdown of the District Youth Resources & Sports Office (DYRSO) in Mokokchung has been lifted following a resolution between the landowners and government to address grievances over appointment of a non-landowner as a multi-task staff (MTS) on Thursday. The shutdown, which began on November 5, was initiated after a non-landowner was appointed despite an ultimatum from the landowners to revoke the appointment. The situation escalated with landowners threatening to shut down the entire Imkongmeren Sports Complex including its surrounding facilities. The lift on shutdown restored normalcy to the operations of the DYRSO and the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, averting disruptions to sports and youth-related activities in the area. An amicable resolution was reached after the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung convened a meeting on November 21. The DC of Mokokchung conveyed a written assurance from the department to revoke the contentious appointment and replace it with a rightful landowner as per an agreement dating back to 1993. The resolution was formalised in a meeting attended by representatives of the Landowners Board Mokokchung, Ungma Village Council Chairman, landowners and district administration officials.
