Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb. 18: Instances have come to the notice of the Department of Fisheries that some fishers, fish farmers, and members of the general public in the South Andaman District are resorting to the use of harmful chemicals for catching fish in the nearby nallahs and ponds. This practice, which involves using toxic chemicals to render fish unconscious and facilitate easier capture, not only leads to severe environmental pollution but also poses a significant risk to the food chain, as the toxins may enter it through contaminated fish.
