A district-level event was held to mark the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas in Chamba today.

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal presided over the programme during which tributes were paid to the martyrs of the Kargil War.

The DC lit a lamp and paid floral tributes to the martyrs from Chamba — Ashish and Khemraj. An oath-taking ceremony was organised to honour the bravery of the soldiers.

Repaswal honoured war widows Pano Devi, Karmi Devi, Vimla Kotwal, Pano Devi, Indu Bala and Anjana Devi.

"The entire nation is indebted to the patriotism and dedication of the soldiers, resulting in the safety and peace. It is our duty to honour the families of the fallen soldiers," said the DC. NCC cadets from the Chamba Government College also participated in the event.

The event was attended by veterans Col Surendra Singh, Capt Chand Lal, Capt Yograj, Capt Musaddilal, Subedar Major Inder Singh Jaryal and others from different parts of the district.
