Muktsar, July 26

State Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian visited some villages in the district today to inspect growing cotton crops amid the threat of pest attacks.

The minister said the situation was under control and surveillance teams had been formed in all the districts. Besides, the department officials have been asked to hold camps in villages to assist the farmers, he added.

He said 466 farmer training camps have been organised in the district this year, so far.

Muktsar Chief Agriculture Officer Gurnam Singh said, "The cotton crop is presently free from pink bollworm in the district. In some villages, a whitefly attack was noticed on cotton crops. Presently, the number of whitefly hotspots has come down to 15 from 32 in the district. I urge the farmers to follow the advisory to save their crop."
