Sun Pharma, India's largest drugmaker on Monday announced that it has designated Aalok Shanghvi as chief operating officer of the company.Aalok Shanghvi, the son of Dilip Shanghvi, promoter and managing director of Sun Pharma, is currently the whole-time director and executive vice-president, emerging markets, global generic R&D, global business development (generics), operations and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) business.Aalok Shanghvi joined Sun Pharma in 2006 and has handled various roles in marketing, R&D, project management, purchase & communications.In 2014, he became the head of Emerging Markets business, spread across80 countries covering Africa, the Middle East, APAC, Eastern Europe, CIS, and Latam.Emerging markets business contributes about 18% to Sun Pharma’s global revenues. Subsequently, he took additional charge of global generic R&D, global business development (generics), operations and API functions. He has been serving as the whole-time director of Sun Pharma since June 2023.Sun Pharma's revenue for the fiscal year FY24 was ?48,496 crore. The company has a market valuation of ?4.17 lakh crores.Aalok majored in cellular and molecular biology at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
