Five different fires have killed at least five people, destroyed 2,000 buildings and forced evacuation of 130,000 people

New fires broke out overnight in Los Angeles, including in central urban areas, causing further panic in an already jittery city whose residents have been forced to flee in the thousands.

The strong winds that have fanned the raging wildfires – blazing around Los Angeles for two days, killing at least five people, destroying almost 2,000 homes and buildings and forcing the evacuation of more than 180,000 people – were expected to ease slightly before strengthening in the evening and into the weekend.
