Vigils being held outside Rome’s Gemelli hospital where Francis is spending his 13^th night

Pope Francis has shown a “further, slight improvement” as the 88-year-old remains in hospital with pneumonia, the Vatican have said.

A CT scan of the pontiff’s chest “showed a normal evolution” of the inflammation in his lungs, the Vatican said in its evening update on Wednesday, while the “mild kidney insufficiency”, which was diagnosed on Sunday, has “resolved”.
