Melting snow and rain lead to major incident being declared in Leicestershire amid UK travel chaos and power cuts

A man’s body has been recovered from an area of flooding in North Yorkshire, as melting snow and rain led to a major incident being declared in Leicestershire on a “miserable Monday” across the the UK that saw travel chaos, power cuts and school closures.

The Met Office said there was no immediate prospect of a respite in the wintry weather with yellow warnings put in place until Wednesday.
