The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has elected Agbo Major as its national chairman.
The convention, which was held at the RockView Hotel in
Apapa, Lagos state, was reportedly attended by delegates and officers of the
party at national and state levels.
Oginni Olaposi was elected as national secretary, while
Felix Chukwurah holds the position of deputy national chairman for the south.
Adetoyese Omokanye is the national treasurer, Babayo
Muhammed is the deputy national chairman for the north, and Abdulrasaq
Abdulsallam serves as national publicity secretary.
Aisha Kade, Edward Ofomona and Omolara Johnson were also
elected as national woman leader, national youth leader and national organising
secretary, respectively.
In attendance were members of the party’s board of trustees
(BoT), national working committee (NWC), and elective officeholders from across
the nation.
Speaking at the event, Mohammed Babayo, the BoT secretary,
said the party is united, focused on its vision, and committed to Nigerians’
needs.
Babayo noted that the party’s decision to move forward was
unanimous, and encouraged the newly elected executives to lead with integrity.
“The task ahead is huge but with unity, hard work and clear
vision, we will continue to strengthen the NNPP and position it as a true
vehicle for change in Nigeria,” he added.
On his part, the newly elected chairman asked all aggrieved
members of the party to return home and contribute toward its development.
“I thank all delegates present here today for this huge
confidence reposed in me. I won’t take this trust for granted,” NAN quoted
Major as saying.
“The NWC under me, as elected today, is poised to deliver.
We are committed to repositioning our party for 2027, and this we will do
vigorously.
“I urge all other elected officials at all levels to key
into this new move to reposition our dear party for optimal performance.
“We will not tolerate anything short of the expected
standards and benchmarks drawn to keep you on your toes.
“The national secretary will issue directives to this effect
soon.”
Prominent party figures, including Abba Yusuf, governor of
Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ex-presidential candidate of the party, were said
to be absent at the convention.
