President Bola Tinubu has declined to assent to a bill seeking the creation of the Federal University of Education, Numan, in Adamawa State.

In a letter addressed to the House and read by Deputy Speaker, Ben Kalu on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Tinubu said he withheld assent due to multiple spelling and drafting errors in the bill.

The letter highlighted several such errors, including the misspelling of “statute” as “statutes” and “one-third” as “on-third.”

Additionally, section 22 of the bill grants the authority to consent to the disposal of land to the Governor instead of the President, as should be the case for land belonging to a Federal Government entity, such as a university.

In another instance, section 25(4)(b) omits the preposition “of” between “award” and “degree.”
