Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed that his life took a significant turn for the better following his son’s tragic death.

Mohbad died under controversial circumstances on September 11, 2023, at the age of 26.

In an interview with media personality Akin Abolade also known as Mrlilgaga published on Tuesday, Mr Aloba reflected on the changes in his life, attributing them to divine intervention and the spirit of his late son.

“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he is my friend. He had it in plan to do many things for me but they didn’t allow him to do them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad, and that of God combined together that began to send people to assist me,” he said.

He disclosed that his newfound assets including a car, truck and other items were gifted to him by compassionate Nigerians. “Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me and it is beyond ordinary. So it is the spirit of Mohbad and God that led those people to give me all I have now,” he added.

Aloba also shed light on the struggles Mohbad faced before his death, noting that his son’s plans were often hindered.

He alleged that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and her family were in control of much of the late singer’s property. “They did a lot concerning that boy (Mohbad). All his landed property is in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church, I forced him to buy and mould the blocks on it, which was later used to bury him,” he said.

Aloba further recalled how Mohbad planned to buy him a house after completing his tour, mentioning that the purchase was already paid for before his death.

Reflecting on his life journey, Aloba said that the birth of Mohbad marked a turning point. He became a singer after money from Mohbad’s naming ceremony was stolen, and his late son served as his backup singer from the age of one.

A carpenter, singer and pastor without a physical church, Aloba said Mohbad promised to build a church for him before his untimely death.

Since Mohbad’s death, Aloba has released nine tracks and received support from Nigerians.
