Mojisola Meranda, the newly elected speaker of the Lagos state assembly, has met with the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, was removed from office on January 13 following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.

Meranda, who had served as deputy speaker under Obasa, was elected to replace him.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, Meranda said the meeting with GAC was to provide an update on the assembly’s recent developments and seek the council’s approval.

“To brief them about what happened at the house of assembly yesterday and to seek their blessings which we have,” she said.

The leadership change comes months after Obasa and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the state governor, met with GAC in October 2023.

That meeting followed tensions between the executive and legislative arms after the assembly declined to confirm 17 of the 39 commissioner nominees submitted by the governor.
