The Anambra State Police Command said it has commenced investigation into a viral video of the swapping of debit card belonging to a blind woman by a lady who opted to help her at an ATM point.


The video of the swapping of the blind woman’s debit card, which was captured by a closed circuit camera at the bank, has been trending for days.


In the video, a young lady was captured trying to help a blind woman to withdraw money from an ATM point, and later swapped her card with another, and subsequently withdrew N2 million from her account.


The Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement said investigation into the matter has commenced, with a view to identify, arrest and bring the lady to book.


He said: “We have intercepted a trending video of an unidentified lady at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of a commercial bank in Nnewi, who allegedly swapped an ATM card belonging to a 58 years old handicapped woman and withdrew the sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) in parts.


“The Command having commenced investigations into the incident, calls on anyone with useful information, especially residents of Nnewi and environs, to help in identifying the suspect for possible arrest and prosecution.”


He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, is concerned about the incident and has directed the Public Relations Officer of the Command to contact the victim for necessary information that will aid the investigation.


The CP further directed that all intelligence gathering tools of the Command should be deployed to identify the suspect and bring her and criminal gang to book.


He said: “Preliminary information reveals that the unidentified lady suspect disguised herself in attempt to assist the victim and swapped the ATM card of the victim and a few minutes after the suspect left the ATM spot, she received several debit alerts totaling the sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000).”
