Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning singer, has gifted colleague Seun Kuti a custom diamond chain designed in the image of Fela Kuti, his legendary father.
Seun shared a photo of the intricately designed chain via
Instagram on Wednesday.
In the caption, the Afrobeat star revealed that Burna Boy
presented him with the gift during their first meeting
Seun also expressed his appreciation to the singer.
“From @burnaboygram with love. We actually met properly for
the first time and ODOGWU send gift. Thanks bro. Big love,” he wrote.
Burna Boy has often spoken about the profound influence Fela
has had on his music and career.
He once described Fela as his “inspiration and childhood
hero”.
He has also rejected comparisons between himself and Fela,
calling them “dishonourable”.
“Fela is my inspiration and my childhood hero, so if you
think comparing me to Fela is honorable, it is actually not,” he said.
“It actually makes me feel weird. Fela was Fela, and if it
was not for Fela, there probably would not be any me, so I do not understand
the comparison.”
Burna Boy gained fame after releasing ‘Like to Party’, the
lead single from his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013).
Since then, he has won numerous awards, including the Grammy
for Best World Music Album in 2021 for his fifth album Twice As Tall (2020).
