Muslims across the country have been urged to sustain the virtues learnt during the month of Ramadan.
This is just as the Saudi Arabia embassy provided food for 1200 indigent Muslims in Ilọrin.
A professor of Islamic Law, Abdulrazzaq Abdulmajeed Alaro, gave the advice while speaking with Daily Trust in Ilọrin.
Alaro who is also the proprietor of Assunnah Academy of Da’wah, Ilọrin, described Ramadan as a month of reformation and called on the Muslims not to return to sin.
According to him, “Whatever we have dropped because we know engaging in it is not pleasing to Allah during Ramadan, we should not go back to it after.
“As Muslims we should not be pious during Ramadan and something else after or before it. That consistency is what Allah demand that will lead us to attain the success we all pray and yearn for in this life and hereafter”, he said.
“If Nigerians can abide by Allah’s instructions on piety, the Islamic scholar said “we will have a better country.
“Whether you are in the public or your private space, your act or actions must not contract God’s injunction. This is the lesson that I want is to carry beyond the month of Ramadan”, he stated.
Alaro who was recently honoured by the Islamic University of Medina as one of its 10 most outstanding alumni, added that the Assunnah Academy was selected in Ilọrin by the Saudi embassy to provide Iftar during the fasting.
“You know iftar is part of the tradition during Ramadan to extend food to people to break their fast apart from our families as was encouraged by the Prophet (SAW).
“As a manifestation of that directive, though we had our own programme in the academy where we fed 100 people daily throughout Ramadan, it was elaborated during the last two days to feed 1,200 people courtesy of the Saudi Arabia embassy in Nigeria through their ministry of Islamic Affairs.
“They have the programme all over the world but they selected a number of mosques in Nigeria which Assunnah Academy happened to be the one for Ilọrin for giving people iftar”, he noted.
He said “Saudi Arabia is an Islamic state with a whole ministry for Islamic Affairs with its budget. Whatever Islam says must be done is not a mere recommendation but obligation for them.
He said apart from iftar, the Saudi embassy through the ministry also
embark on building mosques and providing scholarships for indigent students.
“Another organization from the kingdom was here few weeks ago to distribute scholarships and food to be less privileged courtesy of the embassy”, he submitted.
