The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has announced a major upgrade to its examination system, which will take effect in April 2025.

The reform includes a revised syllabus and the introduction of Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) for all candidates, aligning the institute’s assessment process with international best practices.

In a statement signed by CITN’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, the institute described the move as a strategic step toward enhancing taxation education in Nigeria. According to her, the updated syllabus is designed to equip candidates with stronger technical and analytical skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the evolving taxation industry.

“The new Computer-Based Examination system will not only enhance efficiency in processing results but also provide candidates with increased accessibility and flexibility,” Oso stated. “It will modernize assessment methods, ensuring a more reliable and secure experience while maintaining the highest level of examination integrity.”

CITN explained that the transition to CBE would help streamline the examination process, allowing for quicker result releases and reducing the risk of human errors associated with manual grading.

The digital approach is also expected to improve security, minimizing potential cases of malpractice.

To support candidates through the transition, the institute has been organizing orientation programs and providing recommended study materials. Oso encouraged candidates to take advantage of these resources to optimize their performance in the new system.

The institute called on candidates, members, and stakeholders to embrace the change, noting that it reflects CITN’s ongoing efforts to modernize taxation education in Nigeria.
