The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State has called on the federal government to urgently embark on people-oriented policies and programmes that will alleviate the suffering of the masses.

The body noted that the current economic hardship in the country has pushed many into distress, hence, the need for government interventions in order to restore hope.

This was contained in a Sallah message signed by Imam Tajudeen Adewunmi Mustapha, the Secretary General League of Imams and Alfas, Ogun State.

The statement said, “Nigeria is currently facing economic hardship, insecurity, inflation and social instability, which have made life difficult for many. It is time for us to remain prayerful and ask Allah (SWT) for His divine intervention in our affairs.

“We must seek Allah’s guidance for our leaders, our communities and our families, while praying for peace, stability, and prosperity to reign in our country. As responsible citizens, we must embody the principles of honesty, integrity, and hard work, contributing positively to our communities and upholding justice and fairness in all we do. “While we recognise and appreciate the efforts of the state and federal governments in tackling some of the nation’s problems, we must stress the urgent need for more people-centred policies and programmes that will alleviate the suffering of the masses.

“The economic hardship in the country has pushed many into distress, government interventions are therefore necessary to restore hope,” the league stated and urged government at the various levels to prioritize policies that will regulate and stabilize the economy, ensuring affordability of basic necessities.

The body also called on the government to intensify efforts in securing our communities, strengthening law enforcement agencies and ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.
