Nine passengers have been confirmed dead in a fatal road accident on Sunday along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State.

Aliyu Ma’aji, the Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who confirmed the incident to newsmen said it was a lone accident involving a Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.

“Nine passengers died on the spot while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

He added that preliminary investigations attributed the crash to speeding and loss of control.

The FRSC commander urged motorists to maintain caution, warning against speeding, overloading, and reckless driving, especially during festive periods.

He said despite the state government’s efforts to improve road infrastructure, reckless driving remains a major cause of fatal accidents in Katsina.

This marks the second accident claiming lives in the state within a week.

On March 23, a Volkswagen Golf carrying passengers from Dan-Ali village veered off the road, resulting in the deaths of four people, including the driver.
