The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Uhunomo Emmanuel Osayi before a High Court in Benin over fraud.

The prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the offence contrary to Sections 6 and 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the Same Act.

He said the convict sometime between 2023 and 2025, in Benin City, Edo State, within the jurisdiction of the court did, with intent to defraud, falsely present himself as one Derek Lee, a doctor from San Francisco in the United States of America.

He said the offence was also contrary to Section 384 of the Criminal Law of Edo State Law, 2022 and punishable under the same section.

The counsel to the defendant, however, prayed the court to grant him bail, the request the court granted.
