The baby was abducted in March last year when he was only 2-day old by one Hamida Mustapha who also resided in Tambuwal.

According to the Spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the suspect came to the house of Malam Sani to congratulate them over their newborn baby.

“She claimed to be his sister’s friend and brought some baby’s clothes to the family.

“She later asked permission from the mother to show the baby to her boy friend who she lied to be waiting outside the house and the mother agreed. That was how he ran away with the baby,” Rufa’i said

However, on 12/03/2025, exactly one year after the incident, the said Hamida had misunderstanding with her husband who asked her to leave his house but not to go with his son.

It was at that moment that, Hamida was said to have revealed the true identity of the boy to her husband.

“And before you know it, there were speculation about the identity of the boy in their community and the real father of the son, Malam Sani decided to report the matter to the police,” The PPRO said

When invited, Hamida was said to have initially insisted to be the biological mother of the son,  that it was her grandmother who took his delivery.

However, the grandmother who was later invited by the police denied knowledge of his delivery, saying Hamida only brought the baby to her and claimed to had been delivered of him earlier.

The case was then transferred to the police headquarters and upon Interrogation, Hamida confessed to have lied to her husband and relatives of her delivery knowing fully that, she abducted the baby from One Zainab Sani.

The baby has since been reunited with his parents while Hamida would be arraigned before the competent court of law after investigation.
