Residents of Buni Gari and Gujba town have dismissed what they described as ‘false information’ about a ‘quit notice’ allegedly sent to the communities last week by the Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents.
The Special Adviser to the Yobe State Government on Security Matters, Brigadier General Abdulsalam Dahiru (rtd) has also debunked the speculation.
The terrorists were said to have asked the residents to vacate their communities for allegedly revealing their movements to security agencies.
Those peddling the rumour also said the situation has forced the affected communities to flee their homes in droves to avoid being caught in the crossfire of the planed attacks.
However, sources in the area told Daily Trust that the information was mere rumours as there is no written letter nor verbal message from the terrorists to the affected communities.
When contacted, the Village Head of Gujba town, Mai Kachalla Guja, said no official letter or verbal message from the non stake actors for the people of his domain.
He said some people were afraid and migrated to Damaturu city over the fear of further attack from the terrorists after they killed one vigilante in the town two weeks ago.
Bukar Kolomi, a resident of Yadin Buni town, the headquarters of Gujba LG, told Daily Trust that all the viral information is not true as there is nothing to back up the claim.
“I was part of the security committee of the local government where issues like this can be deliberated, I have reviewed all the news going on but no reliable source of this story”.
Also, the Chairman of Tsangaya Schools in Gujba Local Government, Malam Magaji Abdullahi, when contacted denied the story, saying only issues of farmers and herders were reported in the community.
On his part, the Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd.), dismissed the speculations.
He said there is no credible intelligence suggesting that Boko Haram has issued any eviction notice.
