A lifeless body of a newly born baby has been found at a dump site at Kuchiako community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of Kuchiako, Dangana Isaac, who confirmed the discovery to our reporter on Thursday, said the baby’s corpse was discovered on Wednesday, around 7:34 am at a dump site in the area.
He said the corpse of a day’s old male child was covered with two wrappers inside a polythene “Ghana must” bag and allegedly dumped by yet to be identified woman.
He said the corpse was found by some people that went to scavenge at the dump site and they alerted residents of the area.
He said, “Some scavengers, who went to scavenge at the dump site, saw the corpse of the baby inside a ‘Ghana must’ leather, who rushed to alert some residents staying around the place.”
According to him, some residents immediately invited the vigilantes, who mobilized to the dump site to retrieve the corpse.
He said the vigilantes reported the incident to the security personnel in Kuje, who took the photograph of the corpse before it was deposited at the mortuary.
One of the vigilantes, who was part of the team that retrieved the corpse, Ayuba Moses, confirmed the incident, saying the day-old baby might have been strangled to death.
He said, “I suspected that the baby might have been strangled by yet to be identified woman, who later dump his corpse at the refuse site.”
The vigilante member said the corpse had been deposited at a mortuary in the area, even as he said the vigilantes and other security operatives were investigating the incident.
The police in the area confirmed the incident.
