The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has confirmed the death of a suspected pipeline vandal in the state.
Adepoju said the vandal met his death while trying to bomb a pipeline at Rumuekpe in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State.
Adepoju, who spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, said the joint efforts of the security agencies in Rivers thwarted attempts by the suspect to vandalize pipeline which led to his death.
He said security operatives in the state were ready to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.

The decision to deploy a proactive policing strategy was informed by an emerging atmosphere that could have been exploited by troublemakers to plunge the state into insecurity and chaos and assured residents that the temporary phase would bring about a more peaceful and secure state, he said.
“I must stress the critical importance of securing critical national assets and infrastructures within Rivers State. These assets are vital, not only to the people of Rivers State but to the entire nation.
“Over the past week, the joint efforts of the security agencies in Rivers State have amongst other successes thwarted attempt by miscreants to vandalise pipelines which led to the death of the vandal,” he said.
He was trying to detonate a pipeline, but because of the quick response of the state security agencies at Allu-Rumuekpe in Ikwerre LGA he lost his life.
