Residents of Issele-Uku, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, witnessed a historic moment as Senator Ned Nwoko commissioned a state-of-the-art mini stadium designed to boost sports development in the region.
The newly completed facility boasts a standard football pitch, a seven-a-side multi-sports pitch, pavilions, and fully equipped dressing rooms. Initially abandoned by past administrations, the project has been revived to serve as a hub for young athletes and sports enthusiasts.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Michael Nwoko, Chief of Staff to Senator Ned Nwoko, emphasized the senator’s unwavering commitment to grassroots sports.
“Senator Nwoko believes in catching them young. His commitment to sports is evident in this facility and his establishment of Nigeria’s first Sports University in Idumuje-Ugboko,” he said.
Now in its second academic session, the Sports University offers students the opportunity to combine academics with professional sports training, reinforcing Senator Nwoko’s dedication to nurturing young talent.
The commissioning of the mini stadium has sparked excitement among residents, with many expressing optimism about the opportunities it will create for local athletes.
Community leader, Mr. Chukwudi Okolie, described the project as a long-awaited breakthrough.
“This is a dream come true for our youths. Many talented players will now have a proper facility to train,” he said.
