A High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, has sentenced one Christopher Alex, 25, to two years in a correctional centre over fraud.

The convict was, however, given an option of N200,000 fine.

The convicts were arraigned on a one-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 6 and 8 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act.

The judge, Justice Williams Azeigbemhin, sentenced the convict to two years with an option of N200,000 fine.

The judge ordered that the convict shall forfeit his iPhone 12 as the instrumentality of the crime with which he is charged and convicted to the federal government through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He added that the convict shall also forfeit other assets and properties subsequently traced to him as proceeds of crime with which he was charged.
