The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has claimed that over four million cattle belonging to its members have been stolen by bandits, particularly in the North West.
MACBAN’s National President, Baba Usman, disclosed this during the inauguration of the newly elected state executives of the association in Kebbi State.
He said Fulani herders have been frequently attacked by cattle rustlers, leading to the loss of lives and livelihoods.
Usman insisted that Fulani herders are often misunderstood and wrongly perceived as troublemakers, urging the public to see them as peace-loving Nigerians.
He called on herders to avoid encroaching on farmlands and to live peacefully with farmers to prevent clashes.
Usman also commended the federal and state governments for establishing the Ministry of Livestock, saying it would help address the challenges faced by herders.
He specifically praised Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris for initiatives that have improved the lives of Fulani communities.
