The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has called on troops to intensify their offensive against bandits terrorising the North West sub-region.
During an operational visit to Katsina State on Wednesday, he commended the troops for their successes but emphasised the need to eliminate bandits to restore security.
“The brigade has been doing well, but there is still more work to be done. The goal is to eliminate these criminals and ensure a safer state for residents,” he said.
The COAS visited the 17 Brigade in Katsina to assess operational activities, identify challenges, and find immediate solutions to enhance their effectiveness in combating banditry.
“My message to my soldiers is simple: this is our core responsibility as defenders of Nigeria. Eliminating bandits will create a safer environment for development and the well-being of Nigerians,” he added.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede was received in Katsina by Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, along with officers and men of the 17 Brigade.
The visit comes as part of efforts to bolster military operations against armed groups disrupting peace in Katsina and neighbouring states.
