Vigilantes have arrested two scavengers, Mas’ud Bala and Ibrahim Musa, for allegedly gang raping a 17-year-old girl at Tipper garage area of Gwagwalada in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

One of the vigilantes, Usman Kabiru, said the incident happened on Monday around 11:23 am when the men lured the victim into their wooden apartment.

He said the girl, who hawks soya bean cake, went to collect money the suspects were owing her but, in the process, one of them lured her into their apartment and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

He said, “After one of them lured her into the apartment and forcefully slept with her, his colleague went inside to do the same.”

According to him, screams from the girl attracted the attention of some neighbours, who rushed to the apartment and found her crying.

“They immediately informed the vigilantes, who rushed to the place and arrested one of them while the second person, who initially escaped, was arrested at Unguwar Abattoir this morning (Tuesday) and was handed over to the security personnel,” he added.

The vigilante said the parents of the girl were later informed and they took her to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that one of the suspects had carnal knowledge of her.

The police in the area confirmed the incident but declined further comments, referring our reporter to the command’s headquarters for details.

However, the spokeswoman of the FCT police command, SP Josephine Adeh, was yet to comment on the incident as at the time of filling the report yesterday.
