Operatives of the Gombe State Police Command have arrested one Abdullahi Mohammadu, a suspected livestock thief from Galda village in Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, with a sheep.

The police also recovered three bulls from the suspect.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, the arrest took place on February 9, 2025, around 9am.

The statement said police officers stationed at a checkpoint along the Gombe-Bauchi Road at Yashi Na Biyu intercepted the suspect with a sheep suspected to have been stolen.

It said the suspect was taken to the Amada police station for further investigation, adding that during the questioning, the suspect confessed to have stolen the sheep from the residence of one Musa Manu of Data Jauro Wabi.

DSP Abdullahi said the police also received a complaint from one Alhaji Adamu Bello of Karam, Lawanti District in Akko LGA.

He said the man reported the theft of his bull, valued at N2 million, which was discovered missing around 5am.

He said the Divisional Police Officer of Amada division mobilised a joint team comprising police officers, local vigilantes, and hunters to track the suspects’ footprints. He said, during the operation, the team recovered three bulls tied with ropes in a bush.

“Alhaji Bello identified one of the bulls as his stolen property, while the other two are being held as exhibits pending identification by their rightful owners,” he said.
