The FCT Golf Association is making bold strides to nurture golf talents and expand the sport’s reach, according to its chairman, Mr. Akabong Enebong.

Speaking to Golf Digest, Akabong expressed pride in the achievements of Nigerian golfers and outlined the association’s ambitious plans for the future.

“Our athletes in golf have been doing exceptionally well, and as an association, we aim to help them achieve even greater success at the next National Sports Festival,” he said.

Akabong emphasized the importance of grassroots development in ensuring long-term progress. “We are committed to taking golf to the grassroots. To this end, we’ve partnered with the FCT Education Board, which has approved five schools in areas like Tundun Wada, Gwarinpa and Garshi for us to establish golf academies and ranges. This initiative will not only develop future golfers but also introduce young students to the sport,” he added.

The chairman also announced an exciting partnership with former Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie, who has transitioned into professional golf and is determined to see Nigeria’s flag represented in the sport at the Olympics. Osaze, now pursuing a remarkable new chapter in his sporting career, aspires to bring Nigeria back to the global stage—this time through golf.

Odemwingie turned professional in 2019 and achieved a significant milestone in June 2024 when he graduated from the Professional Golfers Association’s school, solidifying his place in the world of professional golf.

“We’re thrilled to announce our collaboration with Osaze, who will play a significant role in identifying and grooming young golfers for future Olympics. This partnership is a testament to our belief in the potential of our youths,” Akabong stated.
