After weeks of speculation about the Genesis Invitational’s future, the PGA Tour has decided to relocate one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments due to the devastating wildfires in Southern California.
Los Angeles, which has hosted the Genesis Invitational for years, will not serve as the venue this time. Initially scheduled for February 13-16 at the iconic Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, the tournament, spearheaded by Tiger Woods, has been moved to Torrey Pines in San Diego, according to Sports Illustrated.
Torrey Pines, already hosting the Farmers Insurance Open this weekend, will now welcome another elite field for the $20 million Genesis Invitational. Top players like Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are expected to compete at the venue.
Although the PGA Tour has not yet released an official statement on the relocation, reports indicate the decision is nearly finalized. Other venues, such as PGA West near Palm Springs and TPC Scottsdale in Arizona, were considered but ultimately passed over.
This isn’t the first time a course has hosted back-to-back Tour events. In 2020, Muirfield Village successfully staged the Workday Charity Open and the Memorial Tournament in consecutive weeks.
