The Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the present administration has placed a high premium on quality and timely completion of road projects, adding that the federal government will no longer entertain delays from contractors.

He lamented that while the Suleja-Minna Road was at 85 per cent completion, the Bida-Lapai-Lambata Road was still at 64 per cent completion even though the contract was awarded over a decade ago.

The minister disclosed this while speaking at a town hall meeting on the 125km 3-lane single carriageway, a segment of the 1, 068km Sokoto-Badagry Super highway in Minna, Niger State.

He said the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration recognised road infrastructure as a key booster to the economy.

He said the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway which is a federal road would pass through states like Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos, with 125 kilometres of the highway to be constructed in Niger.

He recognised that Niger State with extensive federal road network was faced with challenges of poor road networks over the years, saying some projects that had commenced for over a decade were yet to attain a reasonable level of completion.

In his remark, the Niger State governor, Umaru Muhammad Bago, thanked President Bola Tinubu for prioritising the state’s infrastructure needs. 

 Governor Bago called on the federal government to revoke the contract awarded to some of the underperforming contractors.
