In a bid to improve the fortunes of golf, the Federal Capital Territory Sports Department has constituted a caretaker committee for the FCT Golf Association.
In a letter signed by the FCT’s director of sports, Luka Istifanus and sighted by our correspondent appointed Mr Akabom Enebong as the chairman to run the affairs of the association for a year following approval from the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike
“The management of the FCT Sports Department, Social Development Secretariat of FCTA have found you worthy to serve for a term of one year,” the letter stated.
It will be recalled that the boards of the FCT sports associations were dissolved in October 2023 upon the completion of their four years term tenure in office.
In a chat with the caretaker chairman, he said the aim of the committee is to promote the game and see its teams perform well in national sports events.
“I want to take golf to the grassroots through primary and secondary schools. (Grassroots golf programme) and ensure the FCT team is well-motivated to excel In national events.
“It is the desire of the board to make the association effective and impactful while we collaborate with other organisations who are willing and have the capacity to partner with us.
“It is our plan as well to popularize positive role models in sports to guide our youths and in turn make them better citizens for the country,” he said.
Mal Suleiman Yusuf who will act as the secretary. Other members are Mr Ashir Tarfa, Mrs Ngozi Bose Nwuegbu, Mr Julius Fadairo, Dr Dickson Ifiok, Mr Sheu Ayoola Momodu and Olanrewaju Adeniran.
