Baltasar Engonga, head of the National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF) in Equatorial Guinea, has broken his silence on the alleged sex scandal involving hundreds of private recordings.
According to reports, the victims include a sister of the country’s president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and cousins and relatives of other high profile officials.
The scandal has rocked the political atmosphere and sent shockwaves across the country and beyond.
Investigators allegedly stumbled on the 400 adult videos on his computer at his home in the cause of a fraud investigation over his activities as the country’s financial crime burster.
The videos said to be recorded with consent have since leaked online, sparking a widespread media backlash.
There are unconfirmed reports that one of the alleged victims of the sex tapes committed suicide.
But reacting to the development in a series of tweets on X, the embattled anti-graft boss who has since arrested, denied the authenticity of multiple sex videos.
He also debunked that the lady was connected with the incident.
The 54-year-old Economist attributed the development to the work of his “enemies.”
“I want to tell the People of Equatorial Guinea that those videos are AI edited. My enemies are trying so hard to bring me down
“Ignore the rumours about someone’s death linked to the leaked videos. They’re unfounded”, he said.
Engonga said he had only one wife and six children adding that she is his hero in all of these.
“I only have one wife and my 6 children. They keep me going. We are a happy family. They are my everything.
“If anything ever happens, you are strong enough to guide our children through anything. I trust you completely. You are not just my wife, but my hero”, he added.
Daily Trust reports that the Vice President of the country, Teddy Nguema, has announced plans to install surveillance cameras in all state body offices following the incident.
He said the move is part of an ongoing effort to ensure strict adherence to public service laws and combat misconduct among officials.
The CCTV initiative, unveiled in an X post on Tuesday, according to him, underscored the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We have taken this measure to ensure compliance with the law on public officials and to eradicate improper and illicit behaviour.
“We will not admit any fault that denigrates the integrity of our administration, and those who engage in these practices will face drastic measures”, he said.
The vice president assured opposers of the move that “the initiative aligns with existing legal frameworks aimed at strengthening governance and safeguarding public resources.
The VP noted that the installation of surveillance systems in state offices signals a resolute stand against corruption and misconduct.
Earlier, the VP on Monday announced that the government will immediately suspend any officials involved in sexual relations within ministry offices, as it violates the Code of Conduct and Public Ethics Law.
He said the action reinforces a zero-tolerance policy towards behaviour that undermines public service integrity.
“Today we will proceed with the immediate suspension of all officials who have had sexual relations in the offices of the country’s ministries.
“The government will take severe measures against these acts since they constitute a flagrant violation of the Code of Conduct and the Public Ethics Law.
“This action is a decisive step in our policy of zero tolerance towards behaviours that undermine the integrity of the public service.
“Ethics and respect are fundamental in our administration, and we will not allow irresponsible behaviour to compromise public trust”, he submitted.
