The Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdullah M. Abu Shawesh, has accused the United States of being a staunch supporter of what he termed the “genocide” being committed by Israeli forces against Gaza residents.

Referring to comments made by Lise Grande, U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Humanitarian Issues, who reportedly told several aid organisations that “the U.S. would not consider withholding weapons from Israel for blocking food and medicine from entering the enclave,” Mr Shawesh asked rhetorically, “Do we need an astrologer or fortune teller to prove that the U.S. is the godfather of the ongoing genocide?”

The envoy made the remarks in a press release Thursday in Abuja, marking what he referred to as “the 377th day of the ongoing U.S.-backed Israeli genocide.”

“The world has witnessed patients and displaced persons, sheltering near Al Aqsa hospital, being burned alive. Many others, including women and children, suffer from severe, life-altering burns, and there’s no way to provide the urgent care they need,” Shawesh said.

He noted that, as of October 15, the death toll in Gaza had exceeded 42,227, with over 98,464 injured, the majority being women and children.

He also highlighted the high number of detentions, particularly in the West Bank, saying 11,300 individuals were detained, including 425 women, 745 children, and 112 media correspondents.

Shawesh further accused Israel of non-cooperation with the UN Commission of Inquiries, citing the lack of response to requests for information.

He stressed that “evil prevails when good people choose to remain silent and take no action to stop it.”
