The National Association of Seadogs (NAS) in collaboration with the Legal Assistance and Citizens Rights Initiative (LACRI) has facilitated the release of seven inmates from the Auchi Medium Security Correctional Centre in Edo State.

Speaking with journalists during the event, NAS’s Regional Vice President, Region 3, comprising Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo states, Dirisu Odion, said the release was part of the organisation’s humanitarian efforts.

He said, “We identified ten inmates who couldn’t afford to pay their fines and

with LACRI’s collaboration, we raised funds to secure the release of seven inmates today.”

He advised the released inmates to refrain from crimes.

Also speaking, Christopher Ikponwonsa, noted that the organization was committed to humanistic services for the less privileged.

On his part, Barrister Mahmud Garuba of LACRI, disclosed that the organization offers free legal services for inmates charged with criminal offences.

Speaking on behalf of the released inmates, Onaivi Adeche, who was convicted for two years with an option of fine, lauded NAS and LACRI for paying their fines.
