The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has appointed Alhaji Moshood Olayide Abas as its new acting chairman, following the demise of Barrister Isaac Omodewu.
Abas, who was previously the deputy state chairman, was ratified by the State Executive Committee members at an emergency meeting held on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
According to the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Abas’s appointment is in line with the party’s constitution, which requires the deputy chairman to assume the position of acting chairman in the event of a vacancy.
Abas, a certified pharmacist, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having started his political career in the 1970s with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) under the mentorship of late Uncle Bola Ige.
He has held various party positions and served as Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area and Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board during Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s first term.
Abas’ appointment follows the vacancy created by the death of Barrister Isaac Omodewu, 61, who passed away on August 19th, in the United States after a brief illness.
