The Supreme Court collegium has initiated the process to transfer Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma to the Allahabad High Court following a controversy over the alleged recovery of a large stash of cash from his official residence. The collegium held an urgent meeting after the reported incident and decided to move Justice Varma out of the Delhi High Court. The transfer will take effect after the Centre approves the collegium's recommendation. Senior collegium members reportedly wanted stricter action, including seeking Justice Varma's resignation and launching an in-house inquiry. Justice Varma was appointed as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2014 and became a permanent judge of the Delhi High Court in 2016.
