Deb Mukherjee was part of the famous Mukherjee-Samarth family. His father was Sashadhar Mukherjee, the owner of Filmalaya Studios, who produced the 1960 film Love in Shimla. Actors Kajol and Tanisha are his nieces, and other members of his family include Rani Mukerji and Sharbani Mukherjee.
