BYD Super e-Platform, an all-electric architecture with battery charging speeds of up to 1,000kW, has been revealed. Notably, this is twice that of the latest Tesla V4 charger. BYD has also developed a battery that can provide 400km range in just five minutes of charging.
New BYD Blade battery supports a maximum current of 1,000A.
Called ‘flash charge’, the new Blade battery uses the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. While the battery capacity and weight have not been disclosed, the Chinese car brand said it has achieved a 10C charging multiplier, allowing for the single-digit (5 minutes) charging speed figure. Note that a high C-rate is directly proportional to fast charging speeds.
In the updated BYD Han L sedan and Tang L SUV models, the new battery maintained high levels of charging power, going up to 600kW even at a 90 percent state of charge. BYD has also developed a new 1,000kW charger that may be used across 4,000 BYD charging stations in China.
The new-gen motor is the first to cross 30,000rpm in a mass-produced EV, as per BYD.
The Super e-Platform gets new high-revving motors – up to 30,511rpm – the highest of any mass-produced electric motor to date (brand claimed). The four-wheel drive BYD Tang L and Han L EVs use a 788hp rear motor and 312hp front motor, making for a combined 1,100hp. That translates into 0-100kph times of 2.7 seconds and 3.6 seconds for the Han L and Tang L, respectively. Other variants with a 680hp RWD motor are also on offer with the two electric vehicles in China.
