Volvo EX30 India launch details

The Volvo EX30 electric SUV was already bound for India in 2025. Speaking to Autocar India on the sidelines of the XC90 facelift launch, Jyoti Malhotra, MD, Volvo Cars India, has now said the company is even evaluating local assembly of the electric SUV here in India.

"We have been clear about bringing one EV every year and will continue to do so. By the end of 2025, the EX30 will be introduced in India. We are finalizing our feasibility study to go through the local assembly route," said Malhotra.

  1. EX30 could be brand’s first locally assembled EV
  2. EX30 gets up to 69kWh battery with up to 474km range (claimed)
  3. India launch confirmed for late-2025

Volvo already locally assembles the EX40 and C40 Recharge electric SUVs in India, as well as all of its ICE models. So, it could be viable for the company to also assemble the EX30 here.

Volvo EX30 exterior and design

EX30 exterior and interior has a family resemblance

The EX30 is positioned as the brand’s entry-level electric SUV, and is based on parent firm Geely’s SEA platform, which is also shared with the Jeep Avenger EV. In It has a clear family resemblance to the flagship EX90 SUV with a closed-off grille and Volvo’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights. The tail lamps at the rear also have some resemblance with recently revealed ES90 sedan with a unique slatted detailing for the light signatures.

The interior also builds on Volvo’s traditional design form, with the dashboard dominated by a 12.3-inch vertically mounted touchscreen. The infotainment runs Volvo’s Google-based system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Volvo EX30 battery and range

Top-spec dual motor variant produces 427hp of power

In markets abroad, the EX30 gets three powertrains and two different battery types. Entry-level single motor versions feature a rear-mounted 271hp motor with a 51kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery that returns a claimed range of 342km. There’s also a larger 69kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery that comes in both single-motor and dual-motor versions. The 69kWh single-motor version has the highest claimed range of 474km, while the dual-motor version is the most powerful with 427hp. It remains to be seen in which spec the EX30 comes to India.

In the luxury EV space, BMW recently launched the locally assembled iX1 LWB with a huge price-advantage over its immediate imported rivals. If launched through the CKD route, the EX30 could also be priced significantly lower than its rivals in the luxury EV space.
