While Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e bookings set to open tomorrow, the brand’s official production and sales numbers for January 2025 show that the SUV specialist has already produced 2,281 units of the two born-electric SUVs, and despatched 1,837 units to its dealers. It should be noted that the production and despatch numbers are until January 31, and would have increased during this month. In addition, the model-wise split for the BE 6 and XEV 9e is not known.

To put the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e’s despatch numbers in context, the current EV market leader, Tata Motors, despatched 5,240 all-electric vehicles in the month of January. Tata’s EV portfolio consists of five models at the moment – the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curvv EV. In fact, the Tata Curvv EV (Rs 17.49 lakh-21.99 lakh) is one of the Mahindra BE 6’s direct rivals. Mahindra recently revealed prices for the full BE 6 range (Rs 18.90 lakh-26.90 lakh), and the mid-size e-SUV received a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating shortly before the price announcement.

While the Mahindra XEV 9e has no direct rivals at the moment, its Rs 21.90 lakh-30.50 lakh price range sees it compete against the BYD Atto 3 (Rs 24.99 lakh-33.99 lakh). Tata’s Harrier EV, which is scheduled to arrive in the coming months, will take on the XEV 9e.
As we’ve reported earlier, deliveries for the range-topping variants will begin in mid-March, while delivery of other variants will begin in a phased manner from June to August.
Both of Mahindra’s born e-SUVs are powered by either a 59kWh battery and a 231hp, 380Nm rear-mounted motor, or a 79kWh battery and 286hp, 380Nm rear motor. The ARAI-certified ranges for the BE 6 59kWh and 79 kWh are 556km and 682km, respectively. The XEV 9e 59kWh variants go an ARAI-rated 542km, while the 79kWh variant is said to go 656km on a single charge.
