The Toyota Glanza, which is the Japanese brand’s sole hatchback currently on sale, has achieved a new sales milestone. The badge-engineered version of the Maruti Baleno has crossed 2 lakh in sales last month. The milestone has been achieved in 66 months or five-and-a-half years after the premium hatchback was introduced in India.
Essentially a rebadged Baleno, the Toyota Glanza is made at Suzuki Motor Corp’s (SMC) Gujarat plant by Maruti. The Glanza was launched in June 2019, and while it took a little less than four years to reach the 1 lakh sales milestone (naturally, sales dropped during the COVID lockdowns), the next 1 lakh models were despatched in just one year and nine months.
FY2024 has been the Glanza's best fiscal to date with 52,262 units sold in the 12-month period. In the first 10 months of FY2025, the Toyota hatchback has sold an estimated 40,742 units. In terms of market rivals, despatches of the Glanza in the current fiscal sit between the Hyundai i20 (47,434 units) and the Tata Altroz (31,925 units). However, the Maruti Baleno is far ahead with sales of 1,39,324 units in the same period.

Interestingly, since the launch of the Toyota Glanza, its proportion to the number of Balenos sold has been steadily rising. In FY2020, the share of Glanzas to Balenos sold was just 13.51 percent, while in the current fiscal, that share has increased to 29.24 percent. If the current rate of sales continues, combined despatches of the Baleno and Glanza from the SMC factory to dealers will cross the 2 lakh mark with ease by the end of FY2025.
Toyota’s Glanza retails with petrol and CNG powertrain options, with the former getting manual and AMT auto options, while the latter is manual only. Available in a total of nine variants, the premium hatchback is priced between Rs 6.90 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
