With Kia India set to reveal Syros prices on February 1, the Korean brand’s new compact SUV will go up against 10 other models in the crowded segment. We now have access to the ARAI fuel efficiency figures of the Kia Syros so without further ado, let’s see how it compares to its rivals.
As we’ve reported before, the Kia Syros is available in petrol and diesel form. There’s a 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit that comes with 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox options, and there’s a 116hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine that has 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor automatic options. In manual and automatic form, the petrol engine has an ARAI rated 18.2kpl and 17.68kpl, respectively. The Syros diesel’s ARAI economy is 20.75kpl for the manual and 17.65kpl for the automatic.

While the Syros does share its 1.0-litre engine with the Sonet and the Hyundai Venue, it posts lower ARAI efficiency figures than its siblings. In fact overall, the Syros is among the least efficient petrol compact SUVs with only the Tata Nexon and the Maruti Brezza MT and Hyundai Venue 1.2 delivering less on a litre of fuel. The Maruti Fronx and Toyota Taisor are the most efficient petrol compact SUVs here, with the Nexon coming in last place, and the Skoda Kylaq sitting in the median.

Again, the Syros’ diesel engine is shares with the Sonet and the Venue, and again, it’s less frugal in Kia’s new compact SUV. Only the XUV 3XO posts a lower efficiency figure in manual form, though the automatic version of the Mahindra is more frugal than the Syros diesel AT. It should be noted thyat the Hyundai Venue is the only diesel compact SUV to come with a manual gearbox only; all other rivals get some form of automatic gearbox as an option.
