MG cars at Auto Expo 2025

JSW MG Motor India has one of the most sprawling pavilions at the Auto Expo 2025, and the carmaker has created quite a buzz with the Cybertster electric sportscar, the M9 MPV and the Majestor SUV. While all these models will go on sale in India soon, MG has also showcased quite a few models from its global portfolio at the Auto Expo. This includes the premium L5 and L6 sedans, new MG 7 Trophy and also the ZS PHEV. Let’s take a closer look at each.

iM 5 and 6

IM, which stands for ‘Intelligent Mobility’, was founded as an EV-only brand by MG’s parent brand SAIC in 2020, alongside e-commerce giant Alibaba and R&D specialists Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. MG has displayed two models from the iM brand – the iM 5 sedan and the iM 6 SUV. Save their body style, both models look very similar with a common design philosophy – they have clean and swoopy surfaces, flared fenders, L-shaped LED headlamps and a full-width tail lamp setup at the rear.

What’s unique about the iM 5 and 6 are that they uses a solid-state battery that significantly improves charging times and reduces leakage risks compared to a lithium-ion battery. Both models showcased at the Auto Expo come with a 100kWh battery and is claimed to return over 600km of range. Power and torque outputs are rated at 778hp and 802Nm, respectively, and it also gets four-wheel steering. On the inside, the iM 5 and 6 get a 26.3-inch panoramic screen setup, an additional vertical 10.5-inch screen, and even a yoke-like steering wheel. It also comes standard with ultra-long-range lidar, NVIDIA Orin X chip, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip.

MG 7 Trophy

The M6 7 Trophy is a fastback sports sedan that’s based on the regular MG 7 sedan available in some markets overseas. It has a low-slung fastback silhouette with muscular rear shoulders and sharp character lines flowing down its body. Under the hood, the Trophy variant features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 261hp and 405Nm of torque, and it comes mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It is also luxuriously appointed on the inside with a twin-screen infotainment and digital instrument cluster setup. The interiors also exude a sporty feel with a dark colour scheme and sports seats.

MG ZS HEV and HS PHEV

MG has also displayed the ZS HEV SUV which is essentially a facelift of the MG Astor available in markets abroad. Although MG has not shared any plans of the Astor getting a hybrid powertrain, the design seen on the ZS could make it to the Astor with a mid-life facelift.

It gets a revamped fascia with a much larger grille, sleeker headlamps and new signature for the LED DRLs as well. It also gets much more pronounced air intakes at the edges of the bumper, and tweaked tail lamps at the inside. Inside, there’s a larger touchscreen, revised centre console, a new steering wheel and also an updated instrument cluster. The real highlight, however, is the 102hp 1.5-litre petrol engine that coupled with an electric motor to make a combined 196hp and 465 Nm.

Also on display was the HS PHEV which is slightly larger than the ZS, but has a very similar design. The HS’ highlight is its 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain which produces 299hp and 350Nm of torque. It even returns an electric-only range of over 100km from its 24.7kWh battery.
