The Kia Syros SUV is now open for bookings ahead of its price announcement on February 1. Booking amount for the Syros is Rs 25,000 and customers can reserve their SUV online on the Kia India website or at the showrooms.
The Syros will make its first public appearance on January 17 at the Bharat Mobility Show in New Delhi. It will start reaching local Kia dealerships in the last week of January or by early February, just around its launch date. Dealers tell us that customer test drives will also commence around the same time. Deliveries for the Syros are expected to start by mid February.
At the global debut of the Syros, Kia India’s MD and CEO, Gwanggu Lee, emphasized the importance of cabin room over exterior aesthetics. The Syros measures less than four meters in length, which means it gets the tax benefits available to other compact SUVs in this segment. However, the tall boy design is primarily meant to focus on practicality and interior space.
The Syros is wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase than the Sonet. The class leading rear-seat space, in fact, is comparable with the larger and more expensive Seltos. Adding to its practicality is the large boot, which at 465 litres, is 20 percent more than the Sonet.
The Syros will be available with two engine options and in six trims. The petrol variant gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 120hp and 172Nm of torque, while the diesel one comes with a 1.5-litre unit good for 116hp and 250Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on both engine options, with the petrol variant offering a 7-speed DCT auto option and the diesel variant equipped with a 6-speed torque converter auto option.
On the features front, higher variants of the Syros will get 17-inch alloy wheels, dual tone interiors, leatherette upholstery, ambient lighting, dual 12-3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, an 8-speaker sound system, front and rear ventilated seats, wireless charging, powered driver seats, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, and level 2 ADAS tech. The Syros will rival the long list of compact SUVs that includes the recently introduced Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and others.
