Toyota Hyryder hybrid

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has become the second Maruti rebadged model in the company’s portfolio to sell over 1,00,000 units at the wholesale level in India. Toyota achieved this milestone in September (see wholesales data table below), and at the end of October, the Toyota Hyryder had clocked a total of 1,07,975 units.

The Toyota Glanza hatchback, born of the Maruti Baleno, was Toyota’s first rebadged model to register 1 lakh sales. By the end of October, the company had dispatched 1,91,029 units of the hatchback to dealerships.

In the current fiscal’s first seven months (April to October), the sales of Toyota Hyryder surged 52 percent year on year (YoY) to 36,220 units, accounting for about a fourth of Toyota’s total utility vehicle wholesales of 1,47,351 units.

In early October, to make the most of the festive season’s momentum, Toyota launched the Hyryder Festival Limited Edition, available only in the mid-spec G and top-spec V trims. As the limited-run model gets complementary accessories worth up to Rs 50,817, its price range is Rs 14.49 lakh-20 lakh.

In the financial year that ended March 2024 (FY2024), the Hyryder’s despatches had jumped 114 percent to 48,916 units. In a field teeming with rivals, including the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and Mahindra’s Bolero, Bolero Neo and Thar, the Toyota Hyryder did well and ranked sixth in FY2024.

In the first six months of FY2025, with dispatches of 30,771 units, the Hyryder was ranked 19th among India’s top 20 utility vehicles.

Toyota Hyrder is India’s bestselling rebadged model

Following Toyota Corp’s global product-sharing pact with Suzuki Corp, Toyota’s move to introduce Maruti-rebadged models has paid off handsomely. Currently, four badge-engineered models in India bear the Toyota logo – the Rumion (based on the Maruti Ertiga), Urban Cruiser Taisor (based on the Maruti Fronx), Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

These four Toyota models, with cumulative dispatches of 95,266 units between April and October, comprised 53 percent of Toyota’s total PV sales of 1,78,372 units (up 31 percent YoY). Data from SIAM reveals that the Hyryder, with 36,220 units sold in these months, is currently the bestselling of the four rebadged models (see data table below).

In FY2024, of the two rebadged models – Glanza and Hyryder – the Glanza, with 52,262 units, was ahead of the Hyryder (48,916 units). In the first seven months of FY2025, the Hyryder is ahead of the Glanza by 6,226 units.
