While KTM’s mid-sized street bikes have moved on to the new 990 engine, the 890 motor continues to be used in the mid-sized ADVs. KTM has now launched the 890 Duke R and the 890 Adventure R in India.
The KTM 890 Adventure R is widely considered to be the most off-road focused mid-size ADV bike on the market. It features relatively slim bodywork and a low slung fuel tank that splits the fuel into two sections around the engine area.
The 890 Adventure R uses fully adjustable WP suspension with 240mm of front and rear travel. The bike weighs in at 200kg without fuel. Going with its off-road focus, the KTM 890 Adventure R has a tall 880mm seat. Priced at Rs 15.8 lakh, the KTM 890 Adventure R goes up against rivals like the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally (Rs 15.95 lakh) and BMW F 900 GS (Rs 13.75 lakh)
Meanwhile, while the new gen KTM Duke 990 R has just been unveiled at EICMA, KTM has released the 890 Duke R in India. This bike gets a higher powered version of the same 889cc parallel twin in the 890 Adventure R, which puts out 121hp in the 890 Duke R vs 105hp in the ADV.
This bike gets high-spec Brembo Stylema callipers at the front as well as adjustable WP suspension. Priced at Rs 14.5, the KTM 890 Duke R will go head to head with the Triumph Street Triple RS (Rs 11.8 lakh) and the Ducati Monster SP (Rs 15.95 lakh). KTM will be bringing in these motorcycles via the CBU route and these bikes will be available at all new KTM flagship stores in 7 cities, starting with Bangalore and Pune.
It is worth noting that KTM will be selling these with the 'Demo mode' which is a pay to enable feature. KTM promotes demo mode as an opportunity to test out optional features while riding, allowing riders to decide which ones they want or don’t need, rather than making those choices in a dealership without any riding experience. This feature will allow you to experience all electronic aids and features for the first 1500km after which riders will have to pay to keep the features they like. This includes features like multiple ride modes, including an optional Rally mode, traction control and slide control, a quickshifter for both up and downshifts, and cruise control, among other features. These features can be unlocked permanently at the dealership at a certain price. However, these prices haven’t yet been revealed by KTM.
