Mercedes-AMG G63 facelift: what's new?

First up, there are subtle design changes that include a mildly altered front bumper (now with vertical slats on the AMG G63) and dark chrome finish on the radiator grille, the A-pillars have been subtly rounded off, and a new lip added to the windscreen. The latter two changes are designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency and reduce NVH levels, and were inspired by developments for the electric version. At the back, it gets an optional carbon fiber-finished spare wheel cover.

In another nod to practicality, the G-Class now features keyless entry for the first time; while a seemingly minor tweak, it required substantial work to install without redesigning the door handle itself.

The new G-class also gets major upgrades on the inside. All G-Class models including the AMG G63 now get the same the MBUX infotainment system that's seen on the GLS facelift, This means it gets two 12.3-inch screens for the driver's display and instrumentation, meaning the infotainment system is now a touchscreen for first time and brings wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It also gets an 18-speaker 760 watt Burmester sound system and a new three-spoke AMG performance steering wheel.

The off-road ‘control centre’ in the middle of the dashboard has also been revamped to give easier access to key functions.  It also gets temperature-controlled cup holders and a wireless mobile charger. The updated AMG G63 gets as many as 31 unique MANUFAKTUR upholstery options and 29 MANUFAKTUR paint options available in addition to the standard options.

Mercedes G-Class facelift: now gets mild-hybrid powertrain

As for the powertrain, the AMG G 63 now gets a 48V mild-hybrid tech added to the M177 3,982cc V8 engine. It produces 585hp and 850Nm of torque as before, but there's an additional 22hp boost from the mild-hybrid system. The gearbox on offer remains the 9-speed DCT automatic, just like the outgoing model, and it comes with manual shifting via paddle shifters.

The AMG G 63 nowalso gets an optional AMG Active Ride Control, which is Mercedes' hydraulic, anti-rollbar-free suspension tech that made its debut on the AMG SL 63.It comes with standard AMG Performance package, pushing top speed of upto 240 kmph. The updated AMG G63 does 0-100kph in 4.3 seconds, according to Mercedes-Benz India, and even gets a launch control function for the first time.

What hasn’t changed is the off-road capability of the model: it has a ground clearance of 229mm, a water wading depth of 700mm, a 31-degree angle of approach angle and the ability to remain stable on inclines of up to 35 degrees.
